GAVIEW Vista is the University System of Georgia (USG) supported Learning Management System (LMS) which is used by all of USG's 35 institutions. The LMS allows 24/7 internet access to course content, chat, discussions, quizzes, and much more.

Georgia VIEW Vista was formally called WebCT Vista, but the name has been changed to avoid confusion with Microsoft's new operating system called Vista. Eventually, the word Vista will be dropped and Georgia VIEW Vista will simply become Georgia VIEW.

A Course Management Tool is a software product that is used to facilitate and enhance classroom instruction. It is composed of various tools that can include discussion groups, classroom based content (powerpoint slides, documents, etc), chat rooms, whiteboards, assignments, course calendar, classroom-based email, syllabus and assessments. Each instructor determines what set of tools are used for a given class.

Every Macon State College student has a GAVIEW Vista account and therefore has the ability to use the software tool. GAVIEW Vista is not required for every class being offered on campus because it is the prerogative of the instructor to utilize the software tool. So, your class may or may not use GAVIEW Vista. Ask your instructor if your class will be using it.

Students requiring assistance with GAVIEW Vista have several options. If your instructor is not available or is unable to assist you, it is recommended that the following resources are pursued in the order that they are listed in:

GAVIEW Vista is a web based application that requires a computer with internet access. A broadband connection, i.e. a cable or DSL connection, is recommended for accessing GAVIEW Vista, but a dial-up or 56K connection will work also.

User name: Your user name is firstname.lastname. Lookup your username
Example: john.jones    (John Jones)

Password: Your student password is your birthdate in Banner. The format is mmddyy:
Example: 081685    (August 16, 1985)

GAVIEW Vista is a requirement for some courses. Check with your instructor to find out if you should be using GAView Vista.

Note: As a student, you are automatically enrolled in GAVIEW Vista courses each semester whether your instructor uses GAVIEW Vista or not. It is okay to see several courses listed on your "My WebCT" page that are not being used or do not have content associated with them.

Vista is hosted in Athens, Georgia and is maintained by OIIT.

The GeorgiaVIEW Vista system undergoes regular maintenance every two weeks. These periods always begin on Friday evening at 10PM and end on Saturday morning at 7AM. Please be aware of these times when you are planning on taking an assessment or submitting an assignment.
