On March 27, 2012, Macon State College invited all faculty, staff, and students to participate in the implementation of the College Community Gardens, a collection of plots in which they can plant tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, green beans, or any other vegetable of their choosing. The community gardens will be located in the terraced field on the West side of campus at the corner of Ivey Drive and Eisenhower Parkway, across from Tractor Supply. Plant Operations is in the process of preparing the field and will till the soil and provide fertilization and irrigation to the community gardens as a whole. We are thrilled by the response that we have received and due to the large number of requests, plot request submission has been closed. Those who have already submitted their requests will be contacted by the Community Gardens Coordinator with more information. Also, Tractor Supply (Eisenhower Parkway location) and The Society Gardener (2389 Ingleside Ave. next to Ingleside Village Pizza) are offering students, faculty, and staff a 10% discount on all supplies with a Macon State Blue Storm Card. We look forward to extending this invitation again next year during planting season. Visit the American Community Gardening Association for more information, resources, and tips on community gardening.
