All higher education institutions that receive federal funds from the Department of Education are required to implement an educational program relating to the United States Constitution on Sept. 17, 2005, and every subsequent year. The full text of the authorizing legislation can be found in Section 111 of Division J of Pub. L. 108-447, the "Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2005," Dec. 8, 2004; 118 Stat. 2809, 3344-45 (Section 111).

This day will be known as "Constitution Day" to honor the signing of the Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. The legislation authorizing this Day states, "Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year should hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on Sept. 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution." Should Sept. 17 fall on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, educational institutions should celebrate "Constitution Day" the preceding or following week.

Macon State College has celebrated Constitution Day each year since 2005.

Constitution Day 2012 was observed at the Macon Campus from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, 17th, in the Jones Lobby. The Warner Robins Campus hosted the Constitution Day event on September 17th as well from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Warner Robins Activity Center and Cafe'.

In Macon, Dr. Julie Lester and Ms. Dee Lindsey distributed pocket-sized copies of the Constitution and voter registration forms were available. In Warner Robins, Amy Carter hosted Constitution Trivia in which students were allowed to use their free Constitutions to find the answers.

Free and open to the public, the event was funded by Student Activity fees and sponsored by the Office of Student Life, the Student Government Association and the Department of History & Political Science.

Constitution Day 2011 was observed at the Macon Campus from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Arts Complex Theater. The Warner Robins Campus hosted the Constitution Day event on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Academic Services Building Auditorium.

Mr. Chris Horne spoke at the event in Macon. Pocket-sized copies of the Constitution were distributed and voter registration forms were available.

Constitution Day 2010 was observed from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Walker Auditorium on the Warner Robins Campus, and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Arts Complex Theater on the Macon Campus.

The event on each campus featured "Political Jeopardy" and a Constitution Scavenger Hunt to help participants learn more about the U.S. Constitution. Pocket-sized copies of the Constitution were distributed and voter registration forms were available.

The Macon State College Office of Student Life and the Department of History and Political Science presented CONSTITUTION DAY 2009 “Celebrating the U.S. Constitution” Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Arts Complex Theatre on the Macon Campus and Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Walker Auditorium on the Warner Robins Campus.

The discussions, free and open to the public, took place on both the Macon and Warner Robins campuses.

Moderator was Dr. Julie Lester, Assistant Professor of Political Science. Featured Panelists were: Mr. John P. Cole, Vice President for Institutional Advancement; Dr. Matthew Zimmerman, Assistant Professor of History; and Ms. Crystal Jones, J.D., Macon State College Alumni and former Student Government Association president.

All participants received a pocket-sized copy of the U.S. Constitution.

Ms. Crystal Jones, J.D., Macon State College Alumni and former Student Government Association president, gave a historical perspective to the Constitution.

Three Macon State faculty discussed constitutional issues on Wednesday, Sept. 17, and Thursday, Sept. 18, in celebration of Constitution Day. The 2008 program was entitled "The United States Constitution: The Rights and Responsiblities of Citizens." The discussions, free and open to the public, took place on both the Macon and Warner Robins campuses.

The Macon State College Student Government Association Voter Registration Wednesdays were also be a part of the Constitution Day events on each campus from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.

Constitution Day 2007, the MSC Office of Student Life and the Faculty of Social Sciences presented – “The United States Constitution: What's In It For You?”, at 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, in the Arts Complex Theatre, and 12:30 p.m - 1:45 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, in the Auditorium (WRC).
