Choice of Major It is to the advantage of each student to select a major field as early as possible in their academic career. Any student who is undecided about a major will be advised to concentrate upon the general course requirements of the College until deciding upon a major field. If a student changes the major one or more times, difficulty may occur in completing the degree program in the prescribed time.
Although faculty advisors are provided, the student is responsible for knowing and fulfilling graduation requirements for a degree from Macon State College.
Undecided Major Students who are undecided about their major programs of study should follow the general guidelines for Areas A, B, C, D, and E of the Core Curriculum until a major has been chosen. Such students are further urged to visit the Counseling and Career Center for individual testing and counseling assistance regarding the choosing of a major. When students have earned thirty hours, they will be required to declare a major or a hold will be placed on their registration that will prevent web registration.
Change of Major Students who wish to change majors or students who have not declared a major must submit that request to the Office of the Registrar where the change will be made. It is recommended that students who receive Financial Aid coordinate their change with Financial Aid to ensure that there is no impact on their aid. A change of major is effective the semester following the student's current enrollment or pre-registration. So, if a student submits a change of major form during the Fall 2007 semester, the change will take effect Spring 2008.
Students may make a Change of Major request by completing the secure online form, completing the form available on the Registrar's Web site, and either faxing it or mailing it to the Registrar's Office, or completing the form at the Registrar's counter at the Macon Campus, or the administrative offices at the Warner Robins Campus and the Robins Resident Center.
