Career Goals: “My dream has always been to become a nurse because I love helping others. But I knew that nursing was absolutely what I wanted to do after I had two strokes at the age of 15, and no doctor could figure out why. My brother was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 16, and doctors found a hole in my baby sister's heart when she was 15. With all that we’ve experienced, I want to be someone who can help others understand that illness can strike anybody at anytime. I would like to be a person who can help and comfort.”
She chose Macon State College because … “In researching different colleges' nursing programs, I found that Macon State had one of the best and was highly recommended. Once I graduate from college, I feel confident I will know the material taught to me. Macon State's nursing program is difficult but it will help me become the best nurse I can be.”
The one thing that surprised her about Macon State was … “All the resources Macon State offers to help students succeed in realizing their dream careers. I attended (another college) before I came to Macon State, and I felt like the instructors, as well as the school, did not care if the students succeeded. But since coming to Macon State, I have found resources as such as academic study skills workshop, student support services, tutoring and more to help me be successful.”
Her favorite professor is … “Valerie Beaman-Hackle (associate professor of math). I am and will always be grateful for her help and assistance.”
Her favorite place to study is … “In my apartment. I like to study for an hour at a time, and then take small breaks. It’s more convenient to do this in my apartment.”
One thing people don’t know about her is … “I am a singer at heart. I have sung in the choir for most of my life and plan to continue until God says it is time for me to take a seat.”
Her friends make fun of her because … “I treat my dog like my child. I have had her since she was two days old and I have always referred to her as my daughter.”
The one person she’d most like to meet is … “Fantasia Barrino. From the moment Fantasia won American Idol she has been my idol. Even though she had a hard life she found a way to make things better for herself and her child and I commend her for that.”
Five years from now she sees herself … “Being well-established in my career, working in a hospital supervising nurses. I plan to be married and have at least one child if it is in God's plan.”
