Respiratory therapy major Marianne Dixon is active in academic, social, and athletic clubs.
Full Name: Marianne Elizabeth Dixon.
Age: 20.
Hometown and Residence: Macon.
High School: “I went to Central Fellowship Christian Academy and later to Clarke Central High School, class of 2008, in Athens, where I was part of the tennis team, cheerleading team, cross country team, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and a peer mediation group.”
Family: “My loving parents and two crazy sisters, Gigi & Marie.”
Current Employment: “I am a full-time student but I have two part-time jobs as well! I work at CVS as a shift supervisor and on campus at the Wellness Center.”
Degree Objective: Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy.
Class Rank: Senior.
Activities: “I’m involved in a lot of programs, clubs, and sports at Macon State. I really enjoy sports. I’m on the tennis club team. I enjoy participating in the volleyball intramurals as well. Other clubs that I am currently involved in include ISSA (International Student Studies Association) and MSCARE (Macon State College Association for Respiratory Education.)”
Career Goals: “I have known since I was a little girl that I wanted to work in the health care field. It has always fascinated and amazed me. Once I learned of respiratory therapy and what it was about I knew that it was what I wanted to do. Being a respiratory therapist is more than caring for the sick. Respiratory therapy is an accumulation of tasks performed by a caring, nurturing individual. I hope that I encompass all that there is of the ideal respiratory therapist. My long-term goal is to become a physician’s assistant in dermatology.”
She chose Macon State College because … “It’s close to home and affordable.”
The one thing that surprised her about Macon State was … “How much the instructors offer help in making sure that each person understands the material in class.”
Her favorite professor is … “Oh my! Where to begin?! I would have to say Dr. Kelli Cheng. I had her for statistics. She is incredibly enthusiastic about what she teaches and ready to help in any way. I love math but this class CAN be a little challenging if you don’t stay on top of it.”
Her favorite place to study is … "Upstairs in the library!!!”
One thing people don’t know about her is … “I can speak Thai. My mother is from Thailand and she taught me and my sisters.”
Her friends make fun of her … “For two reasons. One, every time I say I’m going to the library for some reason I say ‘library’ because I talk too fast, and two, I laugh way too much.”
The one person she’d most like to meet is … “Jonah!!! He was a prophet of God in the Bible."
Five years from now she sees herself … “More than likely, I can see myself happily married, starting or being in the middle of graduate school, starting a family and going on mission trips. However, as a Christian, my desires in life are to follow what God has in store for me.”
