The pinning ceremony for the last graduates of Macon State College's School of Nursing & Health Sciences will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the gymnasium of the Macon Campus. Don Faulk, retired CEO of The Medical Center of Central Georgia, will be the keynote speaker.
A pinning ceremony is a symbolic welcoming of new graduates into healthcare professions. While most often associated with nursing, pinning ceremonies are also held for other health professionals. During such ceremonies, known for being elegant and uplifting, faculty members present graduates with pins representing their professions while family and friends look on.
At the December 13 event, there will be 32 nursing graduates, 23 respiratory therapy graduates, 5 health services administration graduates and two health information management graduates.
In January 2013, Macon State is consolidating with Middle Georgia College to become Middle Georgia State College. The new institution will have campuses in Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman and Warner Robins.
