Students Pick New School Colors

More than 1,000 students at Macon State and Middle Georgia colleges voted this week and have selected purple, black and silver/gray to be the new colors of Middle Georgia State College.

Voting took place electronically over four days from all five campuses of the new college, which is expected to be created by an act of the University System of Georgia Board of Regents in January 2013. The new college will have campuses in Macon, Cochran, Warner Robins, Dublin and Eastman.

Voting began Monday and ended at noon Thursday. Students selected from three sets of proposed colors. In addition to the option with purple as the dominant color, the other choices were navy blue and silver/gray, and black and gold. The purple option won with 42.8 percent of the 1,013 votes cast.

In a vote last month, students at the two colleges picked Knights as the new school's mascot.

The color options were proposed by the Joe Bosack Graphic Design Company, which has produced mascot logos and institutional identities for dozens of colleges and sports teams around the nation. In preparing these options, Bosack noted that the color purple was proposed not only because it is frequently used with Knights, but because it was a combination of the color red (from Middle Georgia’s existing colors) and blue (from Macon State’s existing colors).
