Macon State opened a new, 3,000-square-foot Activity Center & Café at the Warner Robins Campus this fall, offering students an inviting space for food, relaxation and play between classes.
A formal grand opening will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, August 27, at the WRACC, which is located in Thomas Hall. Dr. John Black, Macon State’s interim president, and David Carpenter, dean of the Warner Robins Campus, will host the event. Warner Robins and Houston County civic, business and education leaders, as well as Macon State students, faculty and staff, are invited to attend.
The media is cordially invited to cover the grand opening.
The Warner Robins Campus Fitness Center, which opened last year, is part of the Activity Center & Café. New features include Xbox 360 and Wii gaming areas; pool and ping pong tables; a café area serving hot foods throughout the day; an indoor lounge area; an outdoor covered porch area; and additional workout equipment for the fitness center.
WRACC, funded through student-paid fees, represents the most comprehensive expansion of recreation and wellness activities on the Warner Robins Campus since it opened in 2003.
“We want our students to stay on campus longer and have a chance to take a break before or after their classes,” said James Hagler, director of Recreation and Wellness. “The new center will give us a chance to create more opportunities for our Warner Robins Campus students. Throughout the year we’ll be organizing special events, like Wii bowling tournaments and pool and ping pong competitions.”
For fall semester, the Warner Robins Campus Activity Center will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Café hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
