Macon State Foundation Adds New Scholarships
Providing scholarships
for deserving students is one of the Macon State College
Foundation's most important functions. Over the past few years, more
individuals and organizations have found that creating scholarships
through the Foundation is a valuable way to support the community,
pay tribute to a noteworthy person or keep the memory of a loved one
alive.Recently joining
the lineup of scholarships offered through the Foundation are the:
Flint Energies Foundation Scholarship
Established by the Flint Energies Foundation, this scholarship is
awarded annually to students enrolled at Macon State College's
Warner Robins Campus. The Flint Energies Foundation is a state
chartered, non-profit, 501c3 corporation that administers the funds
from Flint's Operation Roundup program. Flint Energies started
Operation Roundup and formed the Flint Energies Foundation in
January 2001. The program gives customers a simple and rewarding way
to raise money for their local charities and service organizations
by rounding their electric bills to the nearest dollar amount. Flint
Energies, as a corporation, separately contributes funds to worthy
causes. The focus is on organizations that are serving either the
health, safety, educational or recreational needs of citizens within
Flint's service territory. Two Flint Energies Foundation
Scholarships in the amount of $1,250 were awarded for the 2004-2005
academic year to Wesley Michael Miller, IT major, and Matthew Lloyd
Talmage, education major. Both students have 4.0 grade point
averages.
James R. Couch Nursing Memorial Scholarship This
scholarship memorializes James R. Couch, a graduate of the Macon
State College nursing program who, after a successful career as an
industrial engineer, pursued his dream of helping people through
professional nursing. Couch found much satisfaction in his chosen
second career and was working as Director of Nursing at Bolingreen
Nursing Center when he passed away. Through his work ethic and
integrity, Couch served as an excellent role model for the nurses he
supervised. His family hopes this scholarship will help aspiring
nurses with similar qualities. Beginning with the 2005-2006 academic
year, a $1,000 annual scholarship will be awarded to a nursing
student, preferably male, who is at least 25 years old with a GPA of
2.50 or higher. The scholarship may be renewed annually as long as
the student is making satisfactory progress toward completion of the
nursing program. Preference will be given to a nursing student who
indicates an interest in long-term care nursing.
Joe E. Timberlake III Endowed Scholarship
Joe E. Timberlake
III has recognized the great value of Macon State College to Central
Georgia since the institution opened in 1968 and has continued the
active support of the College begun by his father, a founding member
of the MSC Foundation Board of Trustees. Timberlake continues to be
one of the prime movers behind Macon State College's growing
academic, economic and cultural influence on the region by serving
in various leadership positions on the Foundation Board of Trustees
and by being an active fundraiser for the College. As chairman of
the Invest in Success Campaign, Timberlake provided consummate
leadership resulting in the Foundation surpassing its $6 million
goal for the College's first comprehensive fundraising effort. The
first scholarship will be awarded in the 2005-2006 academic year.
