The Charles H. Jones Building was
designed by John Portman and Associates, a Georgia architectural
firm know worldwide for its distinctive and high - profile
projects. |

At 78,000 square feet, the
Charles H. Jones Building is the largest facility on campus
and Macon State College's first three - story structure.
Classes will be held in the Jones Building beginning summer
semester 2004. |

With state - of - the - art
labs and 'smart' classrooms, the Jones Building will house
the Division of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Division
of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The building's
ultra - modern labs for biology, chemistry, physics and math
will replace facilities built in 1967.

The Jones Building will also
house graduate programs offered by other University System
of Georgia schools. |

The Jones Building is the
cornerstone of an academic community being developed
around the campus lake. A second project is now in
the design stage and will be home to the Division of
Business and Economics, the Division of Information
Technology and a high - tech conference center.

Plans for the future
include a "Lake Walk," a pedestrian pathway lined with
floral and other plantings related to the College's
Botanical Gardens project. The pathway will
connect the Jones Building and the future building
with the Student Life Center. |
