Did you Know?
It's important to understand that there are two separate threats this fall from the flu:
1) Seasonal flu, which is encountered nearly every fall and winter. Vaccinations will be available
for this type of flu, but it is not expected to protect against the H1N1 virus.
2) H1N1 virus, the so-called swine flu, is a new virus that poses an additional threat
this fall. The vaccination for this flu virus will be in addition to the vaccination for seasonal flu.
Flu symptoms
The symptoms of influenza are the same for both seasonal flu and H1N1. The symptoms usually start suddenly
and may include the following symptoms:
• Fever (usually high)
• Headache
• Tiredness (can be extreme)
• Cough
• Sore throat
• Runny or stuffy nose
• Body aches
• Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults)
Having these symptoms does not always mean that you have the flu. Many different illnesses, including the
common cold, can have similar symptoms.
