13WMAZ/Gannett Foundation - Made possible by The Gannett Foundation through 13WMAZ, these scholarships benefit students enrolled in Macon State’s bachelor of science degree program in Communications and Information Technology. Two annual awards are provided for rising juniors majoring in New Media.

* 1959 Class of Ballard-Hudson, Lanier and Miller High Schools Endowed – This fund is established by members of the classes of 1959 from Ballard-Hudson, Lanier and Miller High Schools in Macon, Georgia. Kept segregated by race and gender in the 1950s, all three classes came together for the first time in 2009 for a single 50th anniversary class reunion. In commemoration and celebration of that milestone occasion, this scholarship is intended to leave a lasting social and financial legacy to future generations of Bibb County students.  The scholarship will benefit graduates of the Ballard-Hudson, Lanier and Miller legacy schools, currently Central and Rutland High Schools, who are pursuing a degree at Macon State College.

* Addie Taylor Foskey Endowed – The Addie Taylor Foskey Endowed Scholarship is awarded annually to a Macon State College student who is admitted to the education program and pursuing a degree in early childhood education. The scholarship was established by F. Dewayne Foskey, president of Children’s Friend Learning Centers, to honor his mother, Addie Taylor Foskey. Family circumstances took priority over completing her formal schooling. Though she never completed her own education, Mrs. Foskey instilled in her children her love for learning and taught by example the importance of helping and serving others.

Anna M. Nemec Memorial - Dr. Anna M. Nemec, former chair of the College’s Social Sciences Division, taught psychology at Macon State College from 1973 until her death in 1991. The Anna M. Nemec Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a psychology major with a 3.00 or higher GPA. Completion of 12 semester hours, enrollment in 10 credit hours per semester and financial need are required. The amount of the award varies.

Association of Old Crows - The spirit of the Dixie Crow scholarship program is to promote awareness of the defense industry and to encourage students to consider a career in defense-related jobs. Several renewable $1,000 scholarships are available to full-time students pursuing degrees in engineering, hard sciences or information technology. Recipients must be U.S. citizens with financial need and live in one of the following Georgia counties: Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Crawford, Dodge, Dooly, Houston, Jones, Laurens, Monroe, Peach, Pulaski, Taylor, Telfair, Twiggs or Wilcox. The scholarship is renewable if the recipient maintains an overall GPA of 2.50 or higher, while receiving no course grade less than 2.00, and continues to be enrolled as a full-time student.

* Barbara J. Stickel Central Georgia Health System Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Nursing – Established by Central Georgia Health System, to honor Barbara J. Stickel, retired nursing officer and her distinguished 40-year career of recognized leadership in the field of nursing. This scholarship will be awarded to a high-achieving incoming freshman pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Macon State College who is notable for: exemplifying academic excellence on national achievement exams; earning a 3.5 high school GPA; and, preferably, demonstrating service to others.  The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of three consecutive years, provided the recipient maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA and is making satisfactory progress toward graduation.

* Bill Elieson Scholarship for Excellence in Information Technology - Dr. Bill Elieson provided outstanding leadership and wise counsel to students, faculty and administration during his six-year tenure as chair of the School of Information Technology at Macon State College. The Bill Elieson Scholarship for Excellence in Information Technology is awarded to a full- or part-time information technology major who has completed 15 hours of upper-level IT courses. Consideration is given to the student’s GPA in IT courses, participation in IT-related activities and clubs and the quality of knowledge, learning and attitude shown by the student. Financial need is also considered.

The Billy and Bobby Stevens Foundation - Contributions from this charitable trust provide assistance for the education of Georgia residents attending Georgia educational institutions that have been in existence for at least five years.  For the 2009-2010 academic year, scholarships were awarded to 18 incoming Macon State freshmen with strong academic records.

* Billy Lee Kimbrel Memorial Endowed - F. Dewayne Foskey, president of Children’s Friend Learning Centers, established the Billy Lee Kimbrel Memorial Scholarship to honor educator Billy Lee Kimbrel, who served in the Coffee County School System in Douglas, GA, from 1954 to 1982. Kimbrel’s time was spent primarily as an industrial arts instructor where he taught mechanical and architectural drawing. In 1975, the Georgia Association of Educators recognized Kimbrel as Georgia Teacher of the Year. Two years later he received a Certificate of Commendation from the state of Georgia for his dedication to teaching. His efforts served as a positive influence on the lives of the young men and women whom he taught. Each year $1,000 is awarded to a Macon State College student admitted to the education program and pursuing a degree in early childhood education.

* Bobbye B. Singley Memorial - Bobbye Bazemore Singley had strong ties to Macon State College as a student and employee. She exhibited high moral character, was committed to learning and showed great determination and dedication. Awarded annually to a Georgia resident at least 40 years of age, the Bobbye B. Singley Memorial Scholarship recognizes a student’s commitment to education and career goals. The student must be currently enrolled at Macon State, a native of Georgia, a graduate of a Georgia high school and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher. The amount of the award varies.

* Byrd Family Endowed - The Byrd Family Endowed scholarship was established by Mark Byrd, owner of Byrd and Company, to honor his wife, Amy Byrd, for the genuine love and devotion she espressed towards the children she taught as a special education and kindergarten teacher in the Houston County School System, and her commitment to her family as a wife and mother. The scholarship also honors Mr. Byrd's mother, Betty Byrd, for her contributions to her family and community as a registered nurse, active member of Centerville First United Methodist Church, Master Gardener, wife and mother. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Macon State College student with demonstrated financial need, who graduated from a Houston County High School within the past ten years and is pursuing a degree in education or nursing.

* Charles and Betty Heard - This scholarship was established in honor of Betty Heard and her late husband, Charles Heard to benefit a self-motivated Macon State College student who has demonstrated hard work and academic achievement.  The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Macon State College student who has completed at least 30 hours and demonstrates academic achievement and/or financial need.

* Charles H. Jones Family Foundation Presidential - As a member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, Charles H. Jones was passionate about improving access to public higher education throughout Georgia and committed to playing a very positive role in restructuring facilities and fiscal management in the University System.  The scholarship was established by Charles H. Jones and the Charles H. Jones Family Foundation to provide an annual award to a high achieving entering freshman pursuing a baccalaureate degree at Macon State. The scholarship is renewable for three years if the student maintains at least a 3.25 GPA and satisfactory progress toward graduation.

Coca-Cola - The Coca-Cola Scholarship is supported by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in partnership with Macon State College. Founded in 1886, the Coca-Cola Company is the world's leading manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of nonalcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups, used to produce nearly 400 beverage brands. Corporate headquarters are in Atlanta, with local operations in over 200 countries around the world.

* Community Foundation of Central Georgia - The Community Foundation of Central Georgia (CFCG) was founded in 1993 by a group of citizens interested in encouraging philanthropy and strengthening the community. The CFCG helps donors establish long-term charitable funds using the most tax-advantaged methods to benefit their causes and our community.

* Community Foundation of Central Georgia Endowed Scholarship in Business - This scholarship is specifically for a student majoring in accounting, marketing, finance, management or other major course of study in the bachelor of science degree program in Business & Information Technology at Macon State. An award is made each year to a junior or senior with a minimum 2.5 GPA who has demonstrated financial need.

* David A. Bell Endowed Presidential Scholarship for the Humanities - The Macon State College Foundation Board of Trustees established this scholarship to honor David A. Bell, Ph.D. for his exemplary leadership of Macon State during the College's most accelerated growth in its history, 1997-2011. This scholarship serves as a lasting tribute to Dr. Bell for his many contributions to Macon State, the region and its citizens. The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming freshman who achieved 1200 or greater on the reading and math portion of the SAT, 3.5 high school GPA and plans to pursue a bachelor's degree at Macon State majoring in humanities, including but not limited to, English, history, philosophy and the arts. The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of three consecutive years, provided the recipient maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA and is making satisfactory progress toward graduation.

* David R. Adams Memorial Scholarship in Information Technology - Dr. David R. Adams, Macon State professor and the College’s first Peyton Anderson Eminent Scholar, was known as much for his sense of humor and easygoing demeanor as for his intellectual genius.  In Dr. Adams’ memory, a scholarship is provided to benefit a student pursuing a bachelor of science degree in Information Technology at Macon State. The scholarship renews annually provided the student maintains a 3.5 GPA and continues satisfactory progression toward graduation.

* Dr. Barbara Thomas Frizzell Endowed Scholarship in Business - Established by friends, family and colleagues, this scholarship honors Dr. Barbara Frizzell for 33 years of exceptional service to Macon State College as a professor of economics and Vice President for Academic Affairs. In 1997, Dr. Frizzell was honored as a Distinguished Professor of Teaching and Learning by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. Under her leadership as Vice President for Academic Affairs from 2003-2009, Macon State experienced unprecendented growth in new degree offerings, student enrollment, and the number of full-time faculty. Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business will be selected based on academic achievement, leadership and community service.

Emory Greene Memorial - Emory Greene served on the Bibb County Board of Commissioners for 17 years and was chairman at the time of his death in 1990. He was a trustee of the Macon State College Foundation and for many years worked with the Southside Lions Club to support the College’s scholarship program. The Emory Greene Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Bibb County resident. Special consideration is given to students with financial need who demonstrate a commitment to public or community service.

* Eugene Alvarez, Ph.D. Endowed - Dr. Eugene Alvarez, Macon State College professor emeritus of history, established this scholarship to recognize and encourage the educational pursuits of honorably discharged members of the United States Marine Corps. Dr. Alvarez served as a Marine during the Korean War, followed by two tours of duty as a drill instructor at Parris Island. He was a staff sergeant in 1959 when he was honorably discharged after seven years active duty and four years with the Marine Corps Reserve. Having earned his GED while in the military, Dr. Alvarez ultimately earned a BA, MS and Ph.D. in history, and has authored six books and numerous published papers. He retired as professor of history at Macon State in 1995. The scholarship will be awarded to full-time students who have been honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps and are pursuing a bachelor or master's degree at Macon State.

* Evelyn Toler Bickford Memorial - Dr. Evelyn Toler Bickford was a charter member of the Macon Junior College faculty who taught mathematics from 1968 until 2000. The Evelyn Toler Bickford Memorial Scholarship is intended for a nontraditional student recently completing learning support classes who shows an exceptional likelihood for success in future college classes.  Financial need is required.

Flint Energies Foundation Jack Hunnicutt Memorial - Jack Hunnicutt was a founding member and former chairman of the Flint Energies Foundation Board and lifelong resident of Central Georgia. Four scholarships of $1,250 each are awarded to students attending classes at Macon State’s Warner Robins Campus. The scholarship is renewable a maximum of four consecutive years provided the recipient maintains a 3.00 or higher GPA and continues a reasonable, advisable course of study towards achieving graduation in a timely manner.

* Gail Burdsall Cowan- Gail Burdsall Cowan served as the second director of nursing at Macon State College. In 1973 she and her husband, Richard H. Cowan, established the Gail Burdsall Cowan Scholarship to assist a full-time student pursuing an associate nursing degree that qualifies the graduate to sit for the Registered Nurse examination.

Georgia Power - Georgia Power Company, a Southern Company, is one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity. Georgia Power is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving customers in 57,000 of Georgia’s 59,000 square miles. Its 2 million customers are in all but six of Georgia’s 159 counties. A $1,500 Georgia Power Scholarship is awarded annually to a student pursuing a degree in business management.

* Gwendolyn Sell Sorrell Study Abroad - Beginning in 1989, Dr. Gwendolyn Sell Sorrell developed and directed Macon State’s Study Abroad Program and twice taught in the Regents’ Summer Study Abroad Program at Roehampton Institute in London. She agreed with John Keats that through books we travel “in the lands of gold.” She also insisted that our imaginary travels are richest when read within the context of real journeys. In her classrooms here and abroad, she expanded the minds and hearts of her students whose worlds and understandings have been significantly enlarged because of her teaching. The Gwendolyn Sell Sorrell Study Abroad Scholarship is designated to students participating in study abroad programs that have a 2.00 or higher GPA and have earned 30 credit hours. Preference is given to a student with financial need.

* Hattie Elizabeth Wilder Endowed - The purpose of the Hattie Elizabeth Wilder Endowed Scholarship is to honor an exceptionally gifted and diligent Registered Nurse, whose work among the sick was an inspiration to many. The scholarship is used to aid promising students in the art and science of nursing.

James R. Couch Memorial Nursing - The James R. Couch Memorial Nursing Scholarship was established in memory of a graduate of the Macon State College nursing program who, after a successful career as an industrial engineer, pursued his dream of helping people through professional nursing. Couch found much satisfaction in his chosen second career and was working as director of nursing at Bolingreen Nursing Center when he passed away. Through his work ethic and integrity, Couch served as an excellent role model for the nurses he supervised. His family hopes this scholarship will help aspiring nurses with similar qualities. A $1,000 annual scholarship is awarded to a nursing student, preferably male, at least 25 years of age with a GPA of 2.50 or higher. The scholarship may be renewed annually as long as the student is making satisfactory progress toward completion of the nursing program. Preference will be given to a nursing student who indicates an interest in long-term care nursing.

James T. Bass, Jr. Memorial - The Central Georgia community and the parents of James T. Bass, Jr. established this scholarship to honor Bass, a Macon Junior College administrator from 1973 until 1987. At the time of his death in 1987, Bass was director of admissions. He was a respected community leader and a supporter of the arts. Special consideration is given to students who demonstrate commitment to learning and devotion to the arts and public service.

* Jay Ragland Memorial - The Jay Ragland Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Jay Ragland, son of Gloria R. and Jack H. Ragland. Jack Ragland served as an administrator at Macon State College from 1967 to 1998 and was interim president from 1984-1985. The scholarship is awarded to a student with a grade point average of 2.50 or higher who demonstrates a need for financial assistance.

* Jeremy Christian Wearn Memorial Endowed - This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Jeremy Christian Wearn who passed away at the age of 19.  The son of Mary and Jay Wearn and brother of Jimmy and Jackson Wearn, Jeremy was a 2009 graduate of Brookwood High School and attended Georgia State University.  Although Jeremy's life was brief, he will forever be remembered by those in whose hearts he dwells for his vibrant intellect, his keen sense of humor, and his quiet, gentle spirit. The scholarship will be awarded to a rising junior or senior with at least a 3.2 GPA and demonstrated financial need who is pursuing a bachelor's degree in English. The scholarship is renewable for one year if the student continues to meet the requirements of the scholarship.

* Jessie S. and H. Grady Bradley Memorial Endowed - Dr. Carolyn Bradley established this scholarship to honor the memory of her parents.  Following high school, Carolyn’s mother, Jessie, taught in a one-room schoolhouse; later, she took a business course and became executive secretary at the Chamber of Commerce, followed by other secretarial positions over the years. As a railroad trainman, Carolyn’s father worked extremely hard all his life to provide for his family. Having had to leave school after the eighth grade to work on the family farm, Grady Bradley said often, “Education is the one thing that no one can ever take away from you.” Because Mr. and Mrs. Bradley made tremendous sacrifices to ensure their only daughter had the opportunities they did not, Carolyn received a B.A. in chemistry, M.S. in zoology, and doctorate in science education.  She retired from Macon State as associate professor of biology in 2006.  The scholarship will be awarded to a Macon State student in his/her junior or senior year majoring in science and planning to teach science at the middle and/or high school level upon graduation. 

* Jo Hammond Memorial - The Jo Hammond Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Jo Hammond, whose work at Macon Junior College was directed toward assisting nontraditional students in their pursuit of higher education. Hammond was a nontraditional student who returned to college to complete her undergraduate degree after her three sons were teenagers, the oldest a college student. She experienced firsthand the difficulties a nontraditional female student faces. The scholarship is renewable annually as long as the student is making satisfactory progress toward completion of the selected program of study and maintains a 2.00 or higher GPA.

* Joan B. Huffman Women’s Caucus - The Joan B. Huffman Women’s Caucus Scholarship was established to honor Joan B. Huffman, Ph.D., professor emerita of history and founder of the Women’s Caucus at Macon State College. The scholarship is awarded to a female student who has completed at least 12 semester hours and has a 2.50 or higher GPA.

* Joe E. Timberlake, III Endowed - The Joe E. Timberlake, III Endowed Scholarship was established through the Macon State College Foundation to honor Timberlake’s continued service to Macon State. Timberlake has recognized the great value of Macon State College to Central Georgia since the institution opened in 1968. He has continued the active support of the College begun by his father, a founding member of the Macon State College Foundation Board of Trustees. Timberlake continues to be one of the prime movers behind Macon State’s growing academic, economic and cultural influence on the region by serving in various leadership positions on the Foundation Board of Trustees and by being an active fundraiser for the College. As chairman of the Invest in Success Campaign, Timberlake provided consumate leadership that resulted in the Foundation surpassing its $6 million goal for the College’s first comprehensive fundraising effort.

* John B. Harris, Jr. Memorial - The John B. Harris, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established by a gift from the E. J. Grassmann Trust to honor John B. Harris, Jr., a Macon attorney, a veteran of WWII and a longtime trustee of the E. J. Grassmann Trust.

* The Junior Woman’s Volunteer Network of Macon Endowed - The Junior Woman’s Volunteer Network of Macon Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a career-minded nontraditional female over 30 years of age desiring to improve her chances of employment by pursuing higher education. Financial need is a determining factor.

* Kaiser Permanente Nursing - Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente, the country’s largest not-for-profit health plan, has served the health care needs of Georgia residents since 1985.  The organization’s mission is to provide high quality, affordable care and to improve the health of its members, and the communities it serves.  The company accomplishes this, in part, by helping to address issues that impact community health.  Kaiser Permanente provides health profession scholarships to help increase the number of health care workers in Georgia, and to train a new generation of nurses, doctors, and pharmacists.  A Kaiser Permanente Nursing Scholarship is awarded annually to a student accepted and enrolled in the nursing program at Macon State.

* Louise Y. Lockhart - Established by the family of Louise Y. Lockhart, this scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time nursing student pursuing an academic program which qualifies the student to sit for the Registered Nurse examination.

* Macon Business and Professional Women’s Club - The Macon Business and Professional Women’s Club Scholarship was established in keeping with the organization’s mission to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. The scholarship is awarded to a male or female nursing student who is a citizen of the United States and demonstrates financial need.

Macon State College Foundation - The Macon State College Foundation awards scholarships to students who demonstrate academic promise and have above average SAT/ACT scores. The number and amount of these scholarships varies.

McNair, McLemore, Middlebrooks & Co., LLP - Founded in 1940, McNair, McLemore, Middlebrooks & Co., LLP has established itself as one of the preeminent accounting firms in Central Georgia. The firm offers a unique and comprehensive blend of services coupled with emphasis on personalized client attention. Established to encourage the study of accounting, the McNair, McLemore, Middlebrooks & Co., LLP Scholarship funds at least one scholarship annually to students with a 3.00 or higher GPA pursuing a degree in accounting and enrolled in upper-division courses.

MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union - MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union established this scholarship as an ongoing effort to support lifelong learning and enhance the lives of the people in the community in which it operates.  MidSouth was originally chartered as Bibb Teachers’ Federal Credit Union in 1936, and though the customer-base has broadened to serve anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in its service areas, MidSouth remains dedicated to its foundation: education.  Two scholarships will be awarded annually in the amount of $1,250 each to Macon State College students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the School of Business with a minimum 3.00 GPA.

PATHWAYS - Each year the PATHWAYS Committee, a group of English faculty in Macon State’s Division of Humanities, selects essays to be included in an anthology of student writing (PATHWAYS) used by all English 1101 and 1102 students. Funded by the Macon State College Division of Humanities, the PATHWAYS Scholarship rewards overall excellence in academic achievement and, in particular, recognizes students who have distinguished themselves in writing courses. Completion of English 1101 and/or 1102 at Macon State College and a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher are required.

* The Peyton Anderson Foundation Endowed Presidential - The Peyton Anderson Foundation Scholarship was established by a generous gift from The Peyton Anderson Foundation, Inc.  Peyton Anderson, Jr., a native of Macon and one time owner of The Macon Telegraph and The Macon News, established the Foundation stating that the people of Macon, Bibb County and Central Georgia had been good to him and he, in return, wished to be good to them.  The scholarships are awarded to outstanding Bibb County public or private high school seniors who plan to attend Macon State College.

Respiratory Therapy - A $500 Respiratory Therapy Scholarship is awarded annually to a respiratory therapy-indicated student at Macon State College. The recipient must have completed 12 semester hours and have a 2.50 or higher GPA.

Shah Family Education - Dr. Manoj H. Shah, an obstetrician and gynecologist practicing in Warner Robins, established this scholarship with his wife, Hansa. The Shahs are committed to supporting the advancement of education, particularly in Central Georgia. Awards are made annually to deserving Macon State students.

* State Bank & Trust Company - State Bank & Trust Company seeks to serve surrounding communities through a return to banking fundamentals, discerning leadership and refreshing accountability. Headquartered in Macon, State Bank is absolutely committed to the long-term growth and prosperity of Middle Georgia, and believes opening the doors of opportunity for deserving students is a sound investment in the future. The State Bank & Trust Company Scholarship is designated to a student who resides in the Central Georgia area, is in his or her senior year within 30 hours of graduating with a bachelor's degree in business, and has a minimum 3.0 GPA.

* Stephen R. Portch Study Abroad Endowed - Chancellor of the University System of Georgia from 1994-2001, Portch was recognized for raising the University System’s aspirations and performance through his keen vision, masterful planning and relentless implementation. His personal commitment was to strengthen the global dimensions of teaching, learning and research in the University System. Established in 2001 as a lasting tribute to Portch, the Stephen R. Portch Study Abroad Endowed Scholarship is awarded to Macon State students to encourage and support international education.

* Student Veterans Association Endowed Scholarship - The Student Veterans Association (SVA) of Macon State College raises awareness of the specific issues facing student veterans and provides support to help them adjust to and succeed in civilian and college life. The Student Veterans Association Endowed Scholarship was established by the SVA to provide financial assistance to United States veterans returning to or entering college for the first time. Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA, and may be from any branch of military service. Financial need is not required but is considered. Awards may be renewed annually upon review by the Macon State College Scholarship Committee, provided the Committee determines the prior-year recipient to be the best applicant.

Tsavatewa-Roper Health and Human Services - Established by Christopher C. Tsavatewa, M.P.H. and Dallas J. Roper, J.D., Macon State Public Service alumni, this scholarship recognizes promising health and human services students and facilitates their academic and professional development.

University System of Georgia Foundation - This scholarship is established by the Univeristy System of Georgia Foundation to be awarded to an incoming Macon State College freshman with demonstrated financial need who is a Georgia resident.  The scholarship covers tuition and mandatory fees for four consecutive years.

Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Georgia Foundation - The Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Georgia Foundation provide this scholarship.  To qualify, a student must be a Georgia resident enrolled full time in an undergraduate course of study through a University System of Georgia institution.  Financial need, academic achievement and the student’s participation in community and school affairs are considered.  However, financial need is paramount.  The award is contingent upon annual funding.
