The Counseling Center staff includes licensed and certified counselors. While some of our staff has particular areas of expertise, each staff member is trained to assess and treat a wide variety of concerns. Staff at the Counseling Center is also available to consult on a variety of issues affecting student growth and development including issues related to students with disabilities. This consultation may include providing information and handouts on a chosen topic, assisting with workshop design, or facilitating a desired program. If you would like to consult with a staff member, please contact the Counseling Center at 478-471-2985.

We provide the opportunity for you to:

Our hope is that this work will create lifelong changes that help you reach your potential in college and beyond. Our services are confidential and free to currently enrolled students.

Ann E. Loyd, M.Ed, CSC - Director

Ann has been a counselor for students from kindergarten through college.  She has special interests in working with students who have special learning needs.  With graduate degrees in Education and Counselor Education from Georgia College and Georgia Southern university. Ann has been a long term advocate for working with students in holistic ways through discovery of personal strengths, career options, learning styles and other interests to the individual students.  She is a member of AHEAD which specializes in issues related to students with disabilities.

Ruth M. Hagemann, M.A., LPC - Counselor

Ruth has been with the Counseling Center since 2007. Ruth earned a B.S. in Psychology from College of Charleston. She earned a M.A. in Clinical Counseling from Webster University. She has been licensed as a counselor since 2001. Her specialties include mood disorders, substance abuse, adjustment and relationships. Ruth is a member of the American Counseling Association and is active in state and local chapters.

Christine R. Elliott, Administrative Assistant/Test Coordinator

Christine has six years of administrative assistance experience. She has earned a B.S. in Communications and Information Technology from Macon State and is currently pursuing an M.S. in Library and Information Sciences from Valdosta State University. Christine enjoys providing a welcoming environment for students interacting with the Counseling Center, and meeting the needs of all faculty, staff, and students at Macon State College.
