What Online Learning options are available to Macon State College students?  Online Learning opportunities include:

  • eCore  Macon State is now an affiliate institution in the University System of Georgia’s online core curriculum program known as eCore.  The eCore program allows students to take core curriculum courses—those generally completed in the freshman and sophomore years—in an online environment.  The eCore tuition rate is currently set at $189 per credit hour. For more information about eCore at Macon State click here
  • eTuition  Online degree options are expanding at Macon State College. This has required the implementation of a Distance Learning tuition rate that applies to all students regardless of residency status.  The eTuition rate is currently set at $30 per credit hour above the applicable prevailing rate ($122.54 per credit hour for the 2011-2012 academic year; $124.87 per credit hour for the 2012-2013 academic year).

What is eCore? eCore—short for electronic core-curriculum—allows University System of Georgia (USG) students the opportunity to complete their first two years of their collegiate careers in an online environment. eCore courses are taught entirely online, except for the occasional proctored exam. eCore courses are designed, developed, taught and supported by faculty and staff from the USG

Do Online Learning rates apply to students with a Guaranteed Tuition Plan?  Guaranteed Tuition Plan students are not charged the eTuition rate.  However, all students regardless of tuition plan pay the eCore rate for eCore classes.

How are Online Learning classes identified in the class schedule on the MSC website?  Both eCore and eTuition classes are fully online.  Fully online courses are identified as 95% to 100% online.  They are delivered via technology and do not require students to travel to a classroom for instruction.  eCore and eTuition are differentiated by:

  • eCore  The course title begins with ECORE, the part of term is Ecore, and the Campus is ECORE.
  • eTuition The course title begins with ONLINE.

Do the 12-hour or 15-hour tuition rate caps apply to Online Learning classes?  There is no maximum tuition cap for eCore and eTuition.  These charges are calculated separately from a student’s non-fully online schedule of classes.

Are Online Learning students exempt from any fees?  eCore and eTuition hours do not count in the calculation to reach the 1 semester hour recreation & wellness fee threshold or the 4 semester hours activity fee threshold at which these fees are assessed.  All other mandatory fees apply.
