Dr. Varkey K. Titus, Dean of the Business School

Varkey K. Titus is the Dean of the School of Business at Macon State College.

Titus, previously Dean of the College of Business and Management at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) in Chicago, is an internationally recognized scholar and has held a number of leadership positions in Schools of Business. He is the author of two books and has published numerous journal articles about his research on economic and other business-related issues.

Titus earned his master's and Ph.D. in economics from Washington State University, and he has a strong background in teaching, administration, and scholarly achievement. Earlier in his career he was chair of the Division of Management, Marketing, Finance, and Economics in the School of Business at Emporia State University and Dean of the College of Business and Finance at Lake Superior State University.

Mr. Charles F. Aiken

Mr. Charlie Aiken

Charlie came to Macon State College in the fall of 2003 from Columbus State University (CSU) where he was an Instructor of Marketing in the Turner College of Business as well as the Founding Director of the John Cunningham Sales Institute (JCSI). Charlie holds a BBA in Marketing and an MBA from CSU. He has extensive industry experience in real estate, corporate (United Cities Gas Company) and pharmaceutical sales (Janssen Pharmaceutica, Inc.); local and regional market research (real estate development, feasibility, satisfaction, preference and behavior studies); and consulting with for- and not-for-profit organizations (Georgia Public Broadcasting, JCSI).

Charlie has a passion for teaching and learning and is dedicated to motivating students to find and fulfill their dreams, beginning with a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and experience.

Dr. Linda Cooper

Dr. Linda Cooper

Dr. Cooper has been a Professor of Business at Macon State College since 1991. She teaches Business Information Applications, Communicating in the Business Environment, and business internship courses. She also serves as the Coordinator of the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP), a co-op program between the Macon State College School of Business and Robins Air Force Base.

She has worked with the European Union Center and co-taught a European Monetary Union course with the University of Munich. As a result of this partnership, she received the MSC Faculty Outstanding Scholarly Activity Award 2001-2002.  She received her Ed.D. from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Science from Western Kentucky University, and a Bachelor of Science from Cumberland College.

Valerie Cutrale

Valerie Cutrale joined the MSC School of Business in the Fall 2011; she previously taught at Dalton State College. Valerie holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science, both from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She welcomes the opportunity to serve the students at MSC.

Wilhelmina Ford

Ms. Ford joined the Macon State College faculty in Fall 2000. She was previously on the business faculty of Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia. Her teaching areas are in the fields of Accounting and Business Law. A graduate from the University of Georgia Terry College of Business she holds the BBA and MAcc. She also earned her J.D. from Mercer University School of Law. She is a licensed CPA in the state of Georgia.

Dr. Greg George

Dr. George joined the faculty at Macon State College in August 2001. He earned his BS in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master of Earth and Environmental Resource Management from the University of South Carolina. He received his doctorate from the Darla Moore School of Busienss at the University of South Carolina in 2002.

Greg's teaching interests include microeconomics and international economics. Publishing interests include experimental economics and game theory as well as their application in numerous fields.

Lucas Hopkins

Lucas HopkinsLuke Hopkins began his teaching career at Macon State College in the fall of 2008. Luke holds a BS in Marketing from Macon State, an MBA from Georgia College and State University and is currently completing his Doctorate in Business Administration from Kennesaw State University.  Luke’s research interests include Consumer Behavior, Services Marketing and Marketing Strategy. Mr. Hopkins brings extensive experience from careers in market research and small business development, which translates well into many of the concepts taught in the classroom.  His previous consulting includes projects with DeKalb County, the City of Macon and Chick-Fil-A.

In his free time, Luke enjoys spending time with his wife Stacy and children Ella and Beckett.  His hobbies also include cycling, running, traveling and carpentry.

Dr. Francisco J. López

Dr. Francisco Lopez

Francisco J. López joined the MSC School of Business Fall 2007 as an Associate Professor of Business teaches courses required in the Operations Management track. Dr. Lopez received a college degree in actuarial sciences from Universidad Anahuac, in Mexico City, in 1984. He enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Business at the University of Mississippi, in Oxford, MS, in August 1996 and obtained his doctoral degree in August 1999.

Dr. Lopez held a visiting Assistant Professor position at the University of Mississippi between August 1999 and May 2000. He was an Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso, TX, between August 2000 and July 2007. He was also a visiting Professor at the Helsinki School of Economics, campus Mikkeli during Fall 2002.

His research interest includes convex analysis (linear, convex, and positive hulls), Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), linear programming, scheduling, and the development of theory and algorithms in these areas.

Dr. Harry G. McAlum

Dr. Harry McAlum

Harry joined MSC as Professor of Accounting in August 2001. He was the recipient of the Endowed Chair for Excellence in Teaching at Lander University in South Carolina. He completed his BBA and MBA at Georgia Southern University. He earned a Doctor of Business Administration from Louisiana Tech University with a major in accounting and minor in Finance and Management.

Harry's teaching career has been at Lander University, the University of South Carolina Spartanburg, and Western Carolina University. His private sector business experience includes working as a CPA for Haskins & Sells (now part of Deloitte & Touche), Certified Public Accountants.

He enjoys horseback riding, gardening, dancing, and cooking in his spare time.

Dr. Anthony Narsing

Dr. Anthony Narsing

Anthony Narsing joined the faculty of Macon State College in Fall 2004. Prior to his arrival at Macon State College, he was an Associate Professor of Management in the College of Business Administration at Savannah State University. He also taught at Southern Illinois University and at the University of
Alberta in Western Canada. His teaching interests include: Quantitative Methods, Operations Management, Applied Statistics, Quality Management, Information Technology, E-Commerce, and Supply Chain Management. Research interests include Supply Chain Management, Quality Management, Simulation and Operations Research. He received his PhD in Management, MSC in Engineering, and BS from the University of Alberta.

Robin C. Parkerson, MBA

Robin came to Macon State College in June 1994 as the Graduation Coordinator in the Registrar's Office from Mercer University. After receiving a certificate in Business Management from Macon State College, Robin went on to receive a BA in Business Administration and an MBA degree from Saint Leo University. In October 2008, she became the Coordinator of Academic Testing at Macon State College but did not quite feel that she had found her particular niche at Macon State.

In January 2010, she joined the staff of the Academic Advising Center as an academic advisor for entering students to Macon State College. That year brought many changes to professional advising at Macon State College. Robin officially joined the School of Business on July 1, 2011 as the Professional Academic Advisor for business majors.

Robin is glad to have finally found her niche at Macon State College, and to be working with students in an advising capacity that are pursuing a degree in business, as well as, working with the dedicated faculty and staff in the School of Business.

Dr. Anthony Patti

Anthony L. Patti was appointed as Georgia Eminent Scholar and Professor of Management at MSC in the Fall of 2005. His appointment is half time with the School of Business and half time with MSC’s Institute for Business and Information Technology. His responsibility to the Institute is to develop a strong relationship between MSC and Robins Air Force Base by identifying needs and developing and delivering courses and workshops primarily in the area of Lean Manufacturing. In the School of Business he teaches courses primarily in Operations Management, conducts research in the areas of quality management, cost of poor quality, process modeling, lean manufacturing, and theory of constraints. Additionally, he reviews manuscripts for a number of journals and national conferences.

Dr. Patti graduated with a Ph.D. in Operations Management from the University of Georgia in 1996. He also has a MBA from Georgia State University and a Bachelor in Electronics Engineering Technology. Prior to coming to MSC, he was an Associate Professor of Management at the University of New Orleans (1996-2005). His industry experience includes over 10 years as a Senior Electrical Engineer with Scientific-Atlanta in Atlanta, GA.

Simone Phipps

Simone T. A. Phipps, MBA, Ph.D., joined the faculty in the School of Business at Macon State College as Assistant Professor of Management in the fall of 2011. Her teaching interests lie in Organizational Behavior, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Human Resources, Principles of Management, and Strategy, and she conducts research in several areas, including entrepreneurial intentions among women, transformational leadership, creativity, personality, and political skill.

Dr. Phipps graduated from Claflin University in 2005, with a B.S. in Management Information Science, and earned her MBA from Ohio University in 2007. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Human Resource and Leadership Development from Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2011. Over the years, she has taught graduate-level leadership courses at LSU, served the Claflin University Office of Career Development as Workforce and Co-operative Specialist, served as business consultant to small businesses in Ohio, and participated in a management and marketing consulting opportunity in Bangalore, India.

Dr. Phipps is originally from the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and enjoys (among other things) lawn tennis, swimming, music, and dance.

Dr. Frank Ryerson

Dr. Frank Ryerson

Dr. Ryerson joined the faculty at Macon State College Fall 2005. He received his B.S. degree in Economics, as well as his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Accounting, from The University of Alabama and will be teaching in the financial, managerial and cost accounting. He also earned an M.H.A. degree from Duke University. He also has taught in the areas of economics and quantitative methods. Prior to joining MSC, Dr. Ryerson taught at the University of South Carolina Upstate and the University of Montevallo.

Terry Sanders

Terry joined the faculty in the fall of 2004 teaching Business Information Applications as Instructor of Business. He received an M.S.A. from Georgia College & State University and a B.A. in History from Georgia Southern University. Terry joined the Macon State faculty after serving as VP of Sales and Marketing for an International developer of software applications in the Automotive Refinish Market. He has taught as an adjunct for Macon State and other institutions since 1999.

Terry is active in the Georgia Collision Industry as a speaker and technology consultant.

Dr. Carol Springer Sargent

Dr. Carol Sargent

Carol Springer is current a full time faculty teaching Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting and Auditing. Her prior experience spans from academic to public accounting to financial executive positions. Her background includes 13 years teaching graduate and undergraduate classes at Georgia State University, 15 years in Controller positions in real estate, international manufacturing and service companies, and 3 years as an auditor at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Carol earned a bachelor of commerce degree and a master of accounting degree, both from the University of Virginia, and her PhD in Educational Psychology from Georgia State University. She has an active CPA license to practice in the State of Georgia. Carol has received awards for both teaching and curriculum innovation and has published on how to improve learning outcomes. Dr.Trip Shinn

Dr. Shinn has been Professor of Economics at Macon State College since August 2000. Prior to his arrival at Macon State College, he was Professor of Economics at the University of Montevallo, near Birmingham, Alabama. Before embarking on his academic career, he worked in the South Carolina State Legislature and served an internship at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C.

Professor Shinn has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Arts in History from Montana State University, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of South Carolina. His research interests include financial economics and the effects of mergers and acquisitions on the market for corporate control.

Jerry Williams

Jerry Williams

Jerry joined the faculty at Macon State College in the fall of 2009 as a Lecturer of Management. He began teaching part-time for Macon State College in 2005. He has a BBA in Business and a MSA in Administration/Logistics Management from Georgia College and State University.

He is the previous president of the Federal Managers Association. He was the education and training focal point for the Air Forces' “Purchasing and Supply chain Management program. As such he worked with the Air Force Institute of Technology and other education providers. He managed an Air Force training organization for eight years. In that role he taught and managed personnel who taught various logistics, avionics, aircraft, and computer courses. He was a member of a team that evaluated the logistics education and training approach for the Air Force Materiel Command. He also taught logistics graduate courses at Georgia College and State University for over five years.

Dr. Larry Wolfenbarger

Larry Wolfenbarger is Professor of Economics and past Chair of the former Division of Business and Economics at Macon State College since July 2000. Prior to his arrival at Macon State College, he was Professor of Economics and Chair of the Department of Economics, Finance, and Marketing at Georgia College and State University. He has previously served as the Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Business Administration and Chair of the Department of Business Administration at Brenau University, and Fuller E. Callaway Professor of Economics and Chair of the Economics and Business Administration Department at Shorter College.

He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Tennessee and a BS degree from Carson-Newman College. His major area of research is economic growth.

Janet Woods

Janet Woods joined the business faculty in 1989. She was previously on the business faculty of Tift College and of Mercer University. She also served as Director of Internal Audit for a local public school system. Her teaching areas are Principles of Accounting I and II and Cost Accounting. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS and MBA. She is also a licensed CPA in the state of Georgia.

Vanessa Svensson

Vanessa Svensson

Vanessa came to work for the School of Business in March 2010. She majored in Marketing and received her BS in Business and Information Technology from Macon State in 2006. In addition to her studies, she worked part-time in Advising and the Bookstore. After graduation, she worked as an Account Executive with AT&T Advertising until they closed their Macon office at the end of 2009. Vanessa is glad to be back involved with Macon State!
