REGENTS' TEST

Macon State College was approved for an exemption of the Regents' Test by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. The exemption became effective immediately, and the Regents' Test is no longer a graduation requirement for currently enrolled students.

Who is eligible for this exemption?

All currently enrolled Macon State College students and those with registration eligibility are exempt from taking the Regents’ Test or any Regents’ Test Skills courses.

How do students qualify for the exemption?

For the 2010 fall, 2011 spring and 2011 summer semesters only, students who passed ENGL 1101 with a grade of "C" or higher and ENGL 1102 with a grade of "D" or higher will qualify for the exemption.

Starting in the 2011 fall semester and every semester thereafter, students who pass ENGL 1101 with a grade of "C" or higher and ENGL 1102 with a grade of "C" or higher will qualify for the exemption.

When will new students become exempt from the Regents’ Test?

Students’ exemptions will appear on Macon State College records after official matriculation.

The Regents’ Test has a reading and an essay portion.  When students make a C or better in English 1101, are they exempt from the writing portion of the Regents’ Test? 

No, there is one exemption once students successfully complete both English 1101 and English 1102.

Will other institutions honor Macon State College’s exemption?

Yes, University System of Georgia (USG) policy is that a USG requirement that is satisfied at one USG institution is considered satisfied at all other USG institutions. Transcripts for currently enrolled Macon State College students and for new students enrolled in the future will indicate that the Regents’ Test requirement has been satisfied once the student successfully completes English 1101 and English 1102.

Does the exemption apply to transient students?

There is no Regents’ Test requirement for transient students. If such students switch to degree-seeking, then the requirement will be shown as satisfied upon successful completion of English 1101 and English 1102.

Can the Regents’ Test Skills courses taken in previous terms be removed from transcripts?

Regents’ Test Skills courses will not be removed from transcripts due to this exemption.

Will any Regents’ Test Skills courses be available in the future?

No, there will be no future Regents’ Test Skills courses given at Macon State College.

What grades did students who were enrolled in a Regents' Skills Course (RGTR 0198 or RGTE 0199) during the 2010 fall semester receive?

Students who satisfactorily completed an RGT course - accomplished the classroom academics and passed the Regents' Test - received an "S" grade. Those students who did not successfully complete an RGT course received a grade of "U". Students who received "U" grades are not required to retake the course because these courses will no longer be offered.
