COMPASS Entrance Exam

COMPASS Entrance Exam Testing Policy

The Academic Testing Center will administer the COMPASS Entrance Exam primarily to Macon State College applicants.

Students from other institutions may take the Compass Entrance Exam at Macon State on a space-available basis and must pay a $35 testing fee before taking the test.

Students sign up for the COMPASS Entrance Exam using the on-line registration tool located on the Academic Testing web page, or by contacting an Academic Testing staff member. A valid telephone number and e-mail address is required.

The COMPASS Entrance test assesses what level of college courses prospective students are academically ready to handle.

Applicants with High SAT-1 and ACT scores may exempt COMPASS Entrance Testing.  Contact the Admissions staff for details at (478) 471-2800.

• COMPASS Testing is taken on a computer.
• COMPASS Testing is not timed—most students finish in about 2-3 hours.
• COMPASS Testing has three sections: Algebra, Reading, and Writing.

Students with COMPASS Entrance test scores below established passing scores are required to enroll in Learning Support classes for those subjects.

Macon State College established minimum Compass Entrance scores in each subject area. Students scoring below the minimum scores will not be allowed to enter the college.

After taking the Compass Entrance Exam, a student may only have two subject areas with scores between the minimum score and below the passing score. Students with three subject area scores above the minimum score but below the passing score will not be eligible for entry into the college.

A valid photo ID card is required for admittance into COMPASS Entrance Testing.

Macon State College's COMPASS Entrance Retake Guidelines

1. Registering for classes immediately terminates the retest option — no exceptions.
2. The retest must be taken before the Admission processing deadline date for that term.
3. There is a $35 retest fee — for any and/or all COMPASS subjects.
4. The retest fee may be paid at the Bursar's Office in Macon or in the Administration Office on the Warner Robins campus.
5. Students may register for a retesting session by calling 478-471-2050 or by using the online registration link.
